Across the board this has become one of my all time favorite recordings. For the opportunity to own the double disc set of the orginal cast and recording the price is a bargain.
After seeing the recent production with Rueben Studdard,Frenchie Davis, Trenyce Cobbins & Patrice Covington I had a much greater appreciation, and renewed interest. The new cast did a great job when visiting our area so I searched for the CD.
While I was familiar with Fat's Waller, I had not known much about "Ain't Misbehavin'". The entire CD is not only timeless, but quite joy to listen to.
Of course once I heard the original cast I was instantly hooked. (I have a newfound appreciation for Nell Carter as well.Holy Smokes could that diva sing).
I should also mention that my Amazon marketplace seller shipped this asap, and the item was just as described. Don't hesitate to invest in this addictive CD.
I've been searching for years. This Show is on DVD which is hard to find. I just bought the DVD on Ebay. I saw the show in Boston in the 80's with the original Broadway cast. After you listen to this cd the songs will stay with you.
I wish they would release it on video I would love nothing more than to see it again. I have been a big fan of this musical for years and nothing beats the original broadway cast- They are amazing. I had taped it but the tape was lost in a fire at my friend's apartment. Someone said it was a shame it was never captured on video, but it was. It was broadcast on NBC in the 80's and it was incredible. I would love to see it get released on DVD. Maybe someday, for now this CD will have to do.
Reordered the CD so I could put it on my ipod. Saw the Broadway Revue many years ago on Broadway. Always loved the moving music. Some songs are soulful, like "Black and Blue", but most are just plain fun and funny, like "Your feets too big". This should be brought back to Broadway now.
Very few revue shows are as satisfying as this one. I'm obsessed with the finale right now; can't get enough of it. The cast is stellar, and it's very obvious that each song is telling its own story. What makes it outstanding are the arrangements.
